What is the difference between a leased line and standard business broadband?

A leased line is a dedicated connection used solely by your business, providing symmetrical upload and download speeds that are guaranteed regardless of time of day or network demand. Other business broadband is a shared service – bandwidth is divided across many users, so speeds can drop significantly during busy periods, this is called contention. For operations that depend on consistent, reliable connectivity – hospitality venues, multi-site businesses, or any organisation with cloud-based systems at its core – a leased line eliminates the uncertainty that contended broadband cannot.

What does the PSTN switch-off mean for my business broadband?

BT Openreach is switching off the UK’s old copper telephone network (the PSTN) on 31 January 2027. Any business still running broadband or traditional landlines over copper will lose those services when the deadline passes. Other business broadband is generally faster to provision.
